In the performance Tröttrullen (Horan och madonnan kulturhus, Malmskillnadsgatan 45, March 2026), Mattias Hellberg departs from the history of the so called “flatbread roll” in relation to the Sisyphus myth. Together with the audience, flatbread rolls are produced inside the venue, after which the artist – naked and smeared with food – crawls into a transparent soft plastic container along with the rolls, inflates it into a sphere, and rolls out onto Malmskillnadsgatan. Inside the sphere, he repeats isolated chants, inward-turned and language-like. When the sphere deflates, he steps out, enters the storefront window, and processes the plastic material into a sculpture (jellyfish/brain). The work functions as a contemporary mythologization of labor in contrast to the stunt, where productivity is displaced onto absurd bodily action and the goal is constantly postponed.
